Antique German Salt Glazed Stoneware Pitcher-late 19th Century Westerwald Cobalt Blue Krug Jug
A beautiful, genuine antique German salt-glazed stoneware jug-this dates from the late 19th to very early 20th century. It is a very traditional round-bellied jug that is an example of historic European folk art from the Westerwald region in Germany. It is unmarked on the base, as is characteristic of authentic utilitarian pieces from this era-it has a striking cobalt blue hand-painted floral scrollwork and is a truly tactile piece with the classic salt glaze orange peel look. The perfect styling piece for an authentic country kitchen, styled on open shelving or used as a rustic flower vase.
It’s in excellent antique condition with no chips or cracks. It features authentic firing imperfections in the glaze such as tiny pits and variations in the cobalt which proves it’s hand-made provenance.
Dimensions: 21cms high, 45cms circumference round the belly and 9cms wide
